Elizabeth Tolstaya (1827-1877).Oil on canvas by N.Maikov. 1855.
She belongs to the family of Simbirsk nobles. Tolstaya is the prototype of Olga Ilyinskaya. In his letters to E.Tolstaya Goncharov wrote two chapters of the novel “Pour u Contre”, speaking about his love to her in 1855-1857.
