Non-commercial organization "Cultural fund named after I.A. Goncharov" was founded in Ulyanovsk (former Simbirsk) in 2005 - it was on the brink of two significant dates for I.A. Goncharov:

• 2007 - 195 years since the birth of the world-known classical writer,
• 2012 - 200th anniversary of I.A. Goncharov, which (according to the decree signed by the president of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin) will be celebrated all over Russia and Ulyanovsk, certainly, becomes the centre of festivals
.

The work orientations of this Fund are numerous and connected with the name of I.A. Goncharov and other outstanding workers of this region:

• assistance to the research activity directed at studying of the regional history;
• creation of the historical and cultural centre on studying the life and works of I.A. Goncharov, on the basis of modern Goncharov museum in Ulyanovsk;
• assistance in support and restoration of historic monuments and town architecture, the memorable places of interest connected with the name of IA. Goncharov and other great compatriots;
• realization of international All-Russian and regional actions connected with significant events in the regional history and with the names of the outstanding residents of Ulyanovsk (Simbirsk);
• assistance in the edition of the literature at studying of local lore and collections of scientific conferences and regional readings.

Today the Fund plans to take an active part in the organization and carrying out Goncharov's anniversaries, important for the Russian and world culture. As a whole all Fund's work is directed on preservation and development of cultural traditions in Simbirsk - Ulyanovsk.
